PUTTING SELF ON THE SHELF - WHEN MARRIAGE ISN'T ALL ABOUT ME

Oh heavens.  Don't you love when your prayer is, "Lord, can you just tell me what to do here...show me why I'm having these feelings so I can quit looking to someone else for xxx..." AND THEN...
you go to your email, read a perfectly fitting devotional, click on a link that leads to the, "You asked for it; here's your answer"....Thank you?!

:)

As always, when something hits home or is helpful to me, I can't keep it to myself ;)  Hope this helps someone else out today too (and yet again, you know how you can pray for me).

I remember the day marriage finally made sense to me. I was flying to a speaking engagement and complaining to God in prayer.
God, you knew what I was like and what I would need in a husband. So are You sure You knew what You were doing when You led me to Hugh?
I was convinced God brought the two of us together. I knew He was in it from the day I met Hugh. But certainly God knew that my husband would not be one to express himself verbally in the way I was expecting. Certainly God knew that I would many times need more, emotionally, than my husband appeared able to give. So why did God let it happen? And why wasn't He transforming my husband so he would be the kind of man to meet my needs and expectations?
It was then as if God had pulled me aside and whispered something profound to me: "Perhaps I was looking at what he needed."
According to the Bible, man was created in the image of God. And woman was created to be man's helper. Woman was created so man would be complete. God didn't create Adam so Eve could be romanced. To the contrary, He created Eve so Adam would have a helper...one suited for him in every way
(Genesis 2:18).
In other words, it wasn't all about me. Ouch!
I'm embarrassed to say that for the first 15 or so years of our marriage, I never really thought too much about what my husband needed in a wife...but I thought quite a bit about what I needed in a husband and how he was falling short of my expectations. I hadn't put my own feelings aside long enough to say "God, show me why you brought me into this man's life and how I can truly help him be all that You created him to be." I hadn't put myself on the shelf long enough to see the bigger, more beautiful picture of what God has in mind when He brings two people, who are very different from each other, together to form a union.
It's tough to leave self on the shelf. Self wants to rule. Self wants its own way. Self suffocates. And self destroys.
The Bible shows us what the opposite of self looks like when it describes love, which is self-less:
Love is kind and patient, never jealous, boastful, proud, or rude. Love isn't selfish or quick tempered. It doesn't keep a record of wrongs that others do. Love rejoices in the truth, but not in evil. Love is always supportive, loyal, hopeful, and trusting. Love never fails! (1 Corinthians 13:4-8a, CEV)
Sometimes our marriage looks the opposite of the biblical description of love. We can be unkind, impatient, jealous, boastful, proud and even rude! There are times we are quick-tempered with each other. And God knows there are times we keep records of the wrongs we do to each other. But recognizing what we don't want our relationship to look like is one of the first steps to walking together toward a newer, fresher, lovelier one.
When I got home from that speaking engagement, I had a new perspective on my marriage. Instead of praying for my husband to meet my needs, I began to ask God to show me how I could meet my husband's. Instead of looking at his short-comings, I began to ask God to expose to me my own. Instead of focusing on my desires, I began to pray about how I could meet his. And it not only gave me grace to extend to his weaknesses (as I became more aware of my own) but it changed my heart. And our marriage. continue reading here (and you should, the entire article is just great - and so many more on the site!)

let the (hard core) praying commence

Hello all.  i come to the blog today with a humble and sadly anxious heart.  it starts today.  i'm trying so hard to not be anxious and follow the apparently clear message the Lord's shouting out to me through every way possible (church, both Bible study materials, devotionals)...

SURRENDER

Some of you have lent an ear (THANK YOU) to listen to how things have really gone down for Tyler and I over the past few months.  Some of you got our new years TCBY that just says it was not-so-great lately.  Well, if you're here, then you must love one of us (or all!) and so I will just let it out to let you better understand my surrender to the Lord.

Life in the Boyd household has, of course, changed since the arrival of a little beauty named Emma.  The pressure of Tyler providing for us financially has increased, and the fact that his regular monthly salary doesn't cover all the bills has led us to taking on some side jobs.  and by us, I mean Tyler.  Not that I'm not willing.  We actually had decided last year about this time that we'd launch our business full-force working together on projects.  We like to work together and he can always clean up my projects nicely and I like to give my own tips/advice on his projects.  and by projects I refer to design things.  (Won't waste too many words on it, but if you're interested in seeing where we were trying to go, click here).

In the last year, however, the Lord has continued to make it very clear to me that He does not want me to focus on absolutely anything other than: Him, Tyler, Emma, Home.  Every attempt at taking on a project (for me) has not ended well.  It's my season to not plan or prepare, but sit back and let others take the lead in doing things.  It took me a while to really really get this, but in November with my last attempt, it was like 'alright, I got it'.

Mainly, it was Tyler.  Although we'd gone through a tough fall/winter last year with his travels required through work, we still felt that he should take up side jobs that seemed feasible (time-wise) that would assist in covering our finances.  He (more so) took on a client last April-August doing task after task.  and we're very grateful for the opportunity and cash it brought in.  however, it led to lots of lonely nights for Em and I.  Especially if Tyler had to work late at the office.  it really limited our time together, and he was just plain tired  after a day at the office and just the thought of tackling more computer/design/programming issues after dinner.

We decided to be more deliberate in praying for the Lord's will in taking on jobs after that point.  We'd purposely planned September as an 'off' month so that we could enjoy that full month of family time before...October, when Tyler's travels would begin.  Well...another opportunity came along.  We did pray about it and did feel peace about it...but it has been much more time consuming, troublesome and exhausting than we could have ever imagined.

It has basically ended up being as thought he's working 2 full time jobs.  As you can imagine, it's definitely effected our home and family life.  It's left us with 1-2 hours or so of 'family time' in the evenings where Tyler's zoned/exhausted and basically has a spurt of energy to play with em and veg before going back to staring at the computer for hours.

I was wrestling with a lot of feelings about this.  I'd keep being surrounded by people that have spouses that travel or work 2 jobs or work random hours and they seemed to be such wonderfully supportive and appreciative wives that I would basically end up beating myself up about how 'poor me' I felt and would just try to talk myself out of my feelings.  It would work for a week, maybe, or a few days, but my weekly breakdowns were soon to be inevitable.  I began to take up things around the house that were typically Tyler things, not expecting any input or help from him on anything 'home'.

I can already hear some of you saying 'well, yeah, if your man's working 2 jobs, suck it up and shut up.'  well, girls,  I've come to the place of realization that 1. we are not all created equal and 2. the Lord has given each of us (different) strengths.  I do SO INCREDIBLY much appreciate all the hard work my man has been putting in to provide for our family. and i do realize it has made it possible for me to stay at home with emma.  however...

after feeling like i didn't have a husband or house mate to share life with; feeling like i didn't have any support in any of my daily doings; feeling like a single mom with 2 to provide meals and a clean home for...then add a literal single-mom experience with our trip to florida and indiana (where Tyler was with us for 12 sporadic days out of 25)...it was just all that i could handle.  and i had a HUGE breakdown...with tyler.  i just couldn't hold it in anymore.  i was praying, but I think the Lord's intention was not for me to feel and be so alone in things.  It wasn't just home stuff...it was our marriage that was ultimately effected through this.  feeling alone was in everything.  we weren't putting any effort in to our marriage.  we were like house mates sharing a roof and that was about it.  it makes me so sad to even say that.

THAT is the place neither of us EVER thought we'd be.  But we were.  and we were, because we were relying on our own strength to build our marriage, not the Lord's.  We were asking God for everything in every other area, but this one. the MAIN one.  And you know Satan's out to wreak havoc on marriages because he can do so much damage by just cracking that one area.  Booger.

After our 'rock bottom' and realization that we needed to get back to the basics.  Basics of God.  Basics of marriage.  Loving and respecting one another.  if we cannot put our marriage in our #2 slot of priorities, how do we expect the things that aer stemming from there to be OK?!  ...and how easy is it to forget?

We've now had a month and a half to refocus our individual sets of eyes back on to the Lord...in ALL things.  focusing on our marriage and on each other.  I've been a much more appreciative and supportive wife this last month (thank you Jesus).  much MUCH more understanding.  The Lord has really opened my eyes to so much through this.  ...too much to continue rambling on about.

...BACK TO THE SURRENDER... (sorry I'm such a rambler!)Through this all, I felt really hurt.  I put my everything in to Tyler and I felt hurt by him not keeping us a priority (not that i had either and i realize that now, mind you).  I had put up a wall and was keeping things at a distance so as to not, essentially, trust him again with all I'd trusted him with before...me.  In the last week, the Lord's reminded me that
  1. I need to keep my trust in the Lord.  he's got me in the palm of his hands.
  2. I need to put my husband in the palm of the lords hands as well (where the Lord keeps him) so that I can submit to my hubby and trust him to love me the way the Lord loves the church, and protect and care for.
  3. I need to forgive my husband (which I whole-heartedly have)
  4. I need to go back to #'s 1 and 2 above continually and allow the lord to guide us and take care of us through every step.
I've been so anxious about this week that Tyler will be gone.  That it (all that's been restored) will go away.  that He will be so wrapped up in work that I'll get left behind in the dust.  I've been trying to find ways to be deliberate about things to stay connected and remind him we're here at home....then yesterday, listening to a song at church, it all finally sunk in...and here I am.  With this ginormo ramble and (more) background (than you ever wanted) asking for you to pray along side us for our surrender to the Lord...knowing He'll take care of everything. ...hope this all has made sense to someone!!;0

....I pray that whatever is your current hang up, that you'll surrender too...
THANKS FOR YOUR PRAYERS

***BTW: we have finally gotten it that the Lord doesn't want either one of us taking on 'extra' things during this season in life.  Once Tyler finalizes things with the current project (in about a month) we will be turning down any side work focusing only on his M-F, our family and just life.  He's very clearly shown us we do not need to take part in side stuff to make ends meet; He will meet all our ends as we honor His direction in our lives, with God's math...that we all ultimately know makes more sense in the end.***

Verse

When you’re in over your head, I’ll be there with you.
When you’re in rough waters, you will not go down
When you’re between a rock and a hard place it won’t be a dead end –
Because I am God, your personal God

women of virtue - cathe laurie

I so needed this today, so of course had to share.  I haven't been spending much time on the computer lately,  or reading through EVERY email either (i subscribe to a lot of things ;0).  Today, I saw this title and was like, OK CLICK PLEASE!  It really ministered to me right now as some of you know that my hubby's basically working two jobs for a few months.  It wasn't easy to begin with and it's getting more and more difficult.  We are approaching the 2 most difficult months of this time (and would very much appreciate your prayers for us!) and I'm just breaking down at the smallest thing, it feels like.  Not a complete bawling session, but 180 in attitude/mood change.  I know that part is only adding to the difficulty Tyler's already experiencing...I try to pray myself out of it as quickly as I can, but my stubbornness (I guess) attaches itself to said mood:(...ANYWAY...unload?! :)  That's where I am today.  Hope you enjoyed!!  And do read on, I hope I didn't ramble too much and change your mind!!

how to be thankful in times of perplexity

November 10th, 2011 | Posted by Cathe Laurie

In everything give thanks… We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair…
This will be a tough Thanksgiving holiday for the Huseman family. There will be two empty places at the table. Somewhere in the desert, near Lake Dolores, Rick and Jeff’s plane crashed. In that moment, they took their last breath on earth, their first breath in heaven. In those final heartbreaking moments, they took turns talking and praying with their mother… and then came a deafening silence on the other end. I can’t imagine this mother’s heartbreak.
We want to know: How is it possible to be thankful and praise God for the things we cannot comprehend? The psalmists show us the way.
The Book of Psalms gives us the permission to ask why, how, when. In one psalm, David cries out, “Wake up God; why are you sleeping?” I love the honesty, the rawness of his prayer. He didn’t tidy it up to impress us. He bares his soul so freely, confident his God will understand. We are in good company; there are many others in Scripture who knew “tears as their food day and night.” After all, the Lord Jesus Christ Himself called from His cross, “My God, My God, why?”
I read in Psalm 42, couched in the midst of the cries and questions, of a tremendous strength. One moment the psalmist pours out his soul to God, and the next he preaches to himself.
“Why are you downcast, O my soul?
Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him,
my Savior and my God” (Psalm 42:11 NIV).
I will yet praise him! These are the final verses in the psalm. There was no quick fix, no answer on the horizon; his condition hadn’t changed. But despite his bewilderment, he determines to praise his Savior and God.
Is this some form of holy schizophrenia? Perhaps, but I assure you God is in favor to this kind of “self talk.” We must learn how preach to our hearts in tough times. Try this prescription: instead of running to the pastor, the counselor, your best friend, or the bottle of anti-depressants, talk to yourself.
Greg, when being hit with thoughts of doubt, has used these words: “Greg, shut up!” Strong words I know, but whatever words you choose, you must urge yourself strongly to do more than rehearse your painful situation. Command your heart into obedience, and put your hope in God, who is worthy of our praise.
Maybe with broken hearts, tear-stained faces, and voices hoarse from crying, we can rise above our circumstances and offer thanks, a sacrifice of praise. Because, either we believe God is good and is in control, or we had better quit the charade, pack our bags, and call it a day. Instead, I pray you will join me and many others who continue to believe and give thanks, in spite of how we feel and what we face.
As Nancy Leigh DeMoss writes, “The grateful heart that springs forth in joy is not acquired in a moment; it is the fruit of a thousand choices.”

What a story

I watched Oprah yesterday, and if you did also you probably remember the story of the gentleman, Kristian Anderson, with cancer.  I searched the video they showed pieces of on youtube today.  See the romantic video this man did for his wife HERE.

On the side bar, I saw what looked like it might be their wedding video.  I know, your thinking I'm a stalker :)  Well, I just love weddings and the 'stories' they show about the couples.  I love love, what can I say.  And as I've been processing 'dying to self' and not being selfish; putting my husband first, I just had to click the video and check it out.  If you too would like to see a wedding video of complete strangers, click HERE.

I was thrilled to see that they displayed prayer in their video!  So of course, as this man is battling his life here on earth, I'm guessing he has the promise of eternal life. smile :)

THEN...I found a link to their blog.  Ug...they've gone through a rough time recently.  And yes, confirmation, in my opinion, that they're believers.  SMILE :)  They can certainly use prayer!  If you'd like to stalk them to the degree I did :)  (let me know so I can feel the company of my fellow stalkers!) click HERE.  Whether you look in to their lives or not, please pray for the family and all they're going through.

...and now, on I go to get to what I've been procrastinating on all week.  Please pray for me.  It's a very emotional thing.  I know I will share it, but just not yet :)  certainly in the weeks to come.

Remember to Thank Him

OUCH...so true...read on...

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 23, 2010 devotional by Greg Laurie

So Jesus answered and said, "Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine? Were there not any found who returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?"

— Luke 17:17–18

Luke 17 tells the story of some men who had a lot to give thanks for. Prior to being miraculously touched by Jesus, they were complete outcasts—the very scourge of society. These ten men had the worst disease of the time, leprosy, for which there was no cure. They couldn't get any lower in that particular time in history with this incurable disease.

Those found to have leprosy could have no contact with others. They had to leave their house and their friends and live apart from them. These men were living an isolated, miserable life. Their clothing would have been ripped from perpetual mourning. Their skeletal heads would have been uncovered. They had to cry out, "Unclean! Unclean!" wherever they went, in keeping with the Law of Moses. But they had heard about Jesus. And seeing Him in the distance, they cried out, "Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!" (Luke 17:12–13).

I find it interesting how the Lord responded. There were no special effects, there was no swelling music—not even a dramatic touch. There was only a command. Jesus simply said, "Go, show yourselves to the priests" (verse 14). According to Levitical law, the priest would take them through an eight-day ceremony, examine them, and make sure they were truly healed of their leprosy.

They weren't healed yet, but still they went—and God healed them completely. However, only one of the ten decided to go back and give thanks, and he was a Samaritan. The Jews looked down on the Samaritans, yet it was a Samaritan who came back to give thanks.

How like us it is to forget to give thanks. We are so quick to ask for God's help. But we also need to remember to give Him praise when He comes through for us.

just the other day, as I was praying before a meal I was like, "OH yeah, thank you for...." and sadly, right at this moment I can't even remember what I was praying for that He answered and I just about forgot to give thanks for.  We take it all for granted, seriously, unless it's a life threatening event.

and what faith?!  how many of us wouldn't start walking until we were healed?  But these guys trusted in His faithfulness, and knew their healing would come.  Talk about walking in faith.  something I wish I did so much more.

OH - would you please pray for Tyler and I: guidance in some very important decisions we have to make almost immediately, and peace with the full event.  THANKS!

A new journey...

I am thinking about finally working on something that God has been bringing to mind for some time now...will you please pray for me on this?  That the Lord will guide each step and process that I will go through in taking on this challenge...I don't want to say too much...yet :)   If I follow through - or how about I say, once it's complete, I would love to share it with you, even if it's just about the experience.

Thanks!

Emma dimple update

We had our ultrasound and while the technician is not able to really say anything in concrete, it has to be reviewed by the radiologist for any official word, she showed us there wasn't anything from the spinal cord connected to Emma's dimple.  She also 'educated' me (she was training so I got to hear a little bit between Emma's fit she was throwing...she had to catch her breath sometimes) that dimples associated with Spina Bifida are generally higher on the back; Emma's is much closer to her bottom.

SO - thank you for your prayers.  God is good and looking out for us with Emma's health :)

Monday, November 1, 2010

So far so good!

Hello.  Dr's appt today went well!  The dimple 'ends' so it isn't like an opening in to her back/bottom or anything like that -so that's a good sign :)  We are going to go in for an ultrasound just to make sure the dimple isn't coming from the spinal cord.  BUT Dr doesn't think it is:)  Just a precaution.

Praise God!  ...we'll keep praying until that next appointment (not sure when it will be yet, they have to call me to schedule) and will keep ya posted.

By the way - she is now up to 10 pounds even!  Big girl!

Prayer Request

Not to alarm anyone, just wanted to have others join us in prayer about this:  Last week I was watching TV and a gentleman was talking about his daughter that was born with Spina Bifida.  She was 'ok' at birth, but later on they discovered a dimple on her lower back/ bottom, which was a sign.  She lost her ability to sense going potty.

Over the weekend, I noticed that Emma had a little dimple next to her tail-bone area/high cheek.  Tyler took a look at it and we decided to take pictures of it and send it in to the Dr to check out.  I mentioned to him the above and he requested an appointment to check her dimple.  He wants to make sure there isn't any drainage from/out of it.  He may request an ultrasound to rule out SB or anything else this could possibly be.

So far, there doesn't seem to be any drainage from what I can tell, but then again, it's covered with a diaper the majority of the time so I can't be certain.

The soonest we can get in with him is Monday at 10:10, so please pray with us that this is one of those 'nothing' things on her little body and it may go away as she grows.

We will let you know the results of her appointment.

Thanks!

Friday Update

Here we are, Friday - what a week it has been!

Wanted to give a quick update as I'm heading out the door to go visit with Emma a bit.

I was released from the hospital yesterday, and after spending as much time as we could with Emma, we headed home yesterday evening. It was absolutely heart breaking to leave her there.

Emma updates: she's got a little jaundice, so they have her under a light to help her out. They were checking her levels again this morning to see where she is today, and I'll find that out when I get there. She's eating well! The Dr told us last night that he'll start to increase her food intake and decrease the IV fluid, which is a great sign. So, she's doing really well!

Mom & Dad updates: we are exhausted and emotionally drained. We would absolutely appreciate your prayers and ENCOURAGEMENT during this difficult time. We know our little girl is doing well, but the hospital and Dr's have her health, development and best interest at heart in caring for her - and they're just making sure she's OK to come home with us before they let her leave their care. And we absolutely appreciate that. Last thing we'd want is to have her come home too early only to lead to issues later. Both Tyler and I said this morning that we're going to need a lot of encouragement to get through this...of course we're relying on God's strength and know He's ultimately in charge of our little girl - and she's well and here with us which is just wonderful. :)

Anyhow, time to head out the door - we'll keep you posted on how she's doing this weekend! We pray that she'll continue on the up and up ;)

Pregnancy & personal update

I haven't really shared too much about the pregnancy since I've been trying to catch up on the pics. That and I forget there are so many family and friends I don't see or talk to regularly to keep updated (if you don't call and ask, I don't think about sharing...not rudely, my mind just moves on).

SO, here's the latest. I had a Dr appointment last Wednesday. Apparently I've gained 20 pounds since my first appointment. Although the largest weight gain occurred between the first two appointments, it is at this time that my doctor brings it to my attention that I should be watching what I eat...and oh by the way, working out too. Sadly, that comment is stuck in the back of my head even though I know I only gained 4 pounds during the 6 weeks between the last 2 appointments :) And of course, now that I have this 'warning' I'm feeling hungry 24/7. Quite interesting how that works!

The last two appointments have just been check ups. Got to listen to the heart beat. According to the doctor, it's rather fast, so her prediction (which she states is by all means not 100% accurate) is GIRL. :)

Next appointment: the dreaded diabetes check :)

Last month we also had the sonogram where they made sure the bone structure was all there and progressing 'normally'. In case you haven't heard or asked, we did not find out what we aer having, nor are we going to. Apparently that appointment was our 'one and only' opportunity to do so. I think after the miscarriage and the wait of even getting pregnant this time around has really brought on a different appreciation for this pregnancy. We're just overjoyed that the Lord has brought this life to us and it really doesn't matter to us what it is. We love it regardless :)

We have registered for our birthing class and are also signing up for some other fun classes (did I just refer to a birthing class as fun?!) that Kaiser offers.

With my 2 days off a week, I don't think I'd realized how tired I've been over the past few months. Last week, in trying to recuperate from a long weekend (will post about that later), it was tough to get myself to be productive...but I drug myself up to do things. I feel bad to know Tyler's at work. I cringe at the thought of having the following convo: TYLER "what did you do today" CONNIE "nothing" :) So I try to cross as many things off of my to-do list as I can each day I'm home.

I haven't really had any cravings either...which is probably good for the weight gain issue. Unless the desire to lay in bed and do nothing all day is a craving?!

Tomorrow is my last day of work - in the office. We'll be heading to Santa Ana for our annual training...which is my last hurrah. 13 years with the same company. 4 years seasonal and part-time, 8 1/2 years full time (apparently 12 1/2 years). Although the Lord's been working out for me to identify myself with him and not this job, it's still a tough thing to swallow. I will no longer be 'Connie with JAMZ' (cue tears)...please pray for me. This is going to be such an emotional 6 days for me - Tyler's packing our own box of tissues and I think I might go get some waterproof mascara.

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

It's Vegas time of year...

So, here we are - Vegas for our yearly visit...FOR WORK!

We tease and say there's some kind of brain washing that goes on. While we're here, the days run in to nights, you sometimes get to eat and take a load off of your feet...

...we're mostly miserable while we're here, but we get so loopy we have fun in the midst of it all and still kind of look forward to it every year.

Here are Julie & I last year...
THIS YEAR - add a little nauseousness to the mix...and I'm not sure how this weekend's going to go! We start work this afternoon for a few hours, then dive in tomorrow.

Please pray for me :) That I take breaks often, get some food, and the nauseous feeling doesn't take over...I actually don't see it too hard to get the breaks - since I'm training people in my position (WA-hooo!)...and getting food, since my mom and sister are good at always bringing food up to my area (in case I don't get away)...but that whole nauseous bit - it's out of my control!

Tuesday, December 22, 2009

Welcome to anyone visiting after receiving our Christmas card and TCBY :) I have not been posting too terribly much this fall ...back in October (wow 2 months ago!) I had posted this to explain....and it just seems like we haven't really been at home long enough to sit and just be still.

Tyler hasn't had to work events since 12/5 (he had been working over the weekends) so the last couple of weekends have been nice to spend together :) AND super excited that we're about to embark on our VACATION! Love taking a break in December. A little rejuvenation before we go nuts again at work.

I will be posting some stuffs out of order, considering Christmas is days away and Thanksgiving still isn't up - so stay tuned for that and showers (wedding and baby) and birthdays and friends OH MY :)

In the mean while, pray with us that we will continue to find time to be still listening for the Lord to speak to us and guide our steps. We do feel our new 'page' beginning to turn but we do want it to be in the Lord's timing.

We will certainly share any news here, as it happens, so stay tuned :)

Mom's Progress

As many of you know, my mom has recently had a single-bypass surgery. Completely out of the blue!!

Many of you were kept updated through my texts (so sorry for those that pay per incoming text! Something I just didn't think about.)

Here are a couple pics I took on my phone.

In her room, 1 day after surgery

...um here's where Tyler and I stayed her first night in her own room...F-U-N...let me tell you.

And here's a shot to show you how close we were to my mom's bed, or also how small the room was :0

about 1:30 or so AM the man just to the right of the room coded. It sounded like a heard of elephants rushing in the room and you could hear them using the paddles. Extremely interesting. Needless to say, that was not a very restful night of sleep. I think we were sore for at least 2 days after. Thank you, thank you, thank you, to Tyler for offering to stay with me (I didn't have to ask!). - AND not trying to say we were the only ones that had this type of sleeping arrangement during a hospital overnight stay! THANKS to each person that stayed with my mom overnight since the first day she was in the hospital!

BACK TO MOM - this was 3 days after surgery. We went on a walk down the hall.

...and she really didn't need the walker. She left it in the hallway to look in to a room we encountered along the way. We were nosey :)

And here's a pic from this past Sunday (11/15). She was anxious for me to send an 'update' to everyone.

She would like to thank everyone for their prayers, visits, phone calls - everything. As would I! Thanks so much!

..and she does love her calls and visits, so feel free to drop by the house or call (209-667-5923:) ).

Visit...

Back in the day, we used to spend TONS of time visiting in Brentwood. Nowa days, not so much. We recently learned that my Tio Beto has stage 4 cancer, and while my mom's there at least once a week, and my sister's been there several times with that being her godfather, Tyler and I have made the trip just once a few weeks back.

Here are some pics of our visit.

:)

impromptu 80th bday celebration for him (it was in two days)
Join us in prayer as he's begun his chemo and radiation...and it's been a difficult ride for him.

Au Revoir

Time has come for our second trip to Las Vegas! We're minutes away from leaving, and apparently I felt the need to post some pics :) A breather must have been needed!

I would love to say that we're flying but not this time around!! So pray for us to have a safe drive as the road conditions seem to be a bit dangerous due to the rains :)
Love the pics, yeah?! They're from our flight to Will & Sarah's wedding last summer :) Check out Ryan and Jen's JAMZ Nationals tribute pics on the family photo network for some giggles!
Hope everyone is doing well! We'll be in touch once life returns to 'normal' in a couple of weeks :)
